English is often sited as the defacto official language of International commerce.

English is not the world's most common language but English is the world's most common second language.

Use of English along side the native language on express train in Europe is commonplace.

English is often sited as the defacto official language of International commerce. Perhaps China Rail uses English to aid international visitors. One would assume the express service fare is higher than regular service.

A passenger walks past the Z124/Z122 express sleeper train from Chengdu to Shanghai in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, Jan. 15, 2013. The Z124/Z122 train from Chengdu to Shanghai, which started operation on Tuesday, is the first express sleeper train in southwest China and the fastest among all trains running between Chengdu and Shanghai. The link goes to a series of photos. Photo #3 shows a compartment that appears to sleep four.  The article does not say if individual compartments are available.

Has anybody ridden this or a similar service in China that can relate their experience?

Interesting that signage on the train is in both Chinese and English.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!
