If they can get the OR to 100, then the whole battle changes from year-to-year survival to a fight for capital.

The overall loss if the NEC trains are included is between $5 and $6 a ticket.  Perhaps Amtrak will manage to break even before too long.

$361 million, 19% drop in operating loss compared to last year.    Wonder if we will see break even in the next 7-10 years?

Now you have done it.   The closer AMTRAK gets to break even the worse the opponents of AMTRAK will scream ---------    ( you fill in the words )

It will be interesting to see their 2012 annual report when it comes out.  I wonder if there is a glimmer of scalability in the numbers.  Hope so.  If they can get the OR to 100, then the whole battle changes from year-to-year survival to a fight for capital.

It also reported the highest ridership ever, 31.2 million riders in the last fiscal year.

Any idea of what factors led to this improvement?  Better passenger load factors?  More trains over the same route?  Cost-cutting?
