Here's the "Trains Newswire" story on this subject:

This appears to be well needed addition. One item it will give the people in boston ability to leave on last ACELA at 1720 instead of 1630 and continue thru NYP.
An interesting study will be to note how many day round trippers take this last ACELA. The additional service may increase total ACELA ridership per day 200 -300.

Sounds like a good deal, as long as the overall increase in revenue exceeds the direct costs of the extra trips. It's hard to believe it wouldn't...

One thing is clear: The track capacity is there. Amtrak shares NEC tracks with state commuter authorities. But these are late night trains and will operate well after the evening rush hour.
some of our posters if possible check the # of passengers carried by these new trains. especially the bos - wash train.
According to Wiki an Acela carries 304 people in 6 passenger cars.

I couldn't find details about Acela on Amtrak's own site although I may have missed something.
