Amtrak has recently leased about 75 miles of track running from Poughkeepsie, New York to Hofmanns (just west of Schenectady). The track is owned by CSX. Important improvements including a 4th track and up to day signaling are expected for the track. This is part of the water level route between New York and Chicago and has long been one of the most important sections of track in the country for both freight and passengers. The new lease is the subject of a Newswire article on December 5.
