Amtrak vs. Via
Posted by calzeph on Monday, October 22, 2012 8:04 PM

when I was in my teens my family went up to Canada to make some train trips in the pre-Via era. Even on trains without full dining cars, the the lounge and cafe cars made for some fairly decnt on-board service. Now all you have on most Via trains is at your seat service with those so-called "trolleys" with attendants hawking food and whatnot. Those CN cafe-lounges I think were better than anything than anything Amtrak has offered with Amfleet cars. On the CN and early Via trains, those carswere the bast possible thing there could be if having a full diner was out of the question. I really wish Via would move back to that level of on board service. there must've been a garbage strike when the present system of at your seat food cart service was conceived because it should have gone out with the trash.
