Not mentioned in the article is that most of the animals that cause these delays do not live to tell their offspring about it.

Here is  an interesting article that says NY Yankees cancelled practice due to AMTRAK cancellations.

http://news.yahoo.com/amtrak-disrupted-dc-delaware-165248032.html

Does this mean they were scheduled to ride the train back to NY ??

Both the Baltimore Orioles and the Yankees had been scheduled to use Amtrak to travel to New York to continue the ALDS that is tied 1 game each after the Orioles beat the Yankees 3-2 last night.

MARC has reported anotheer power failure on Penn line today. Here is MARC's announcement

" At this time, due to the power outage between Perryville and Aberdeen, train 520 (12:20 pm Washington departure) will terminate in Edgewood station. Passengers for Aberdeen and Perryville are asked to detrain at Baltimore where they will be cabbed north. Train 537(2:46 pm Edgewood departure) will originate at Edgewood, there is no alternate service for Aberdeen and Perryville. MARC will update this information as it is made available to us. "

Wonder what kind of power failure this time ? Did wires come down again ?

MARC bulletin about CAT power failure.

Due to catenary power outage MARC trains will either terminate or originate from Edgewood station. There is no service to or from Perryville and Aberdeen stations. Amtrak trains 151 and 181 are terminated indefinitely. Please see Amtrak's webpage for further information for those trains at www.Amtrak.com

Streak,

Everything I've seen said Amtrak had "signal problems" but did not go beyond those words.  Both Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains were delayed, some for more than 3 hours.  I didn't see anything referring to a problem with the 1930's catenary system.

Amtrak reports signals out NYP - Newark. other sites say signal lines and some CAT DOWN.

The wire infrastructure seems to have reached the end of useful life ?
