well there have been alot of summer time failures on all commuter rails & AMTRAK. .CAT failures, loco breakdowns, signal failures where none haveoccurred before, the normal locations of signal failures -- many substitutions. AMTRAK lost its CAT on three tracks in deleware today about noon causing many delays.

One has to wonder if the CAT south of PHL may be in worse shape than north of PHL ?
Monday & Tuesday this week not kind/ worcester , providence, AMTRAK penn line, camden, brunswick all had switch / signal problems. Will this heat ever end ????
blue streak 1 henry6: SPTA, NJT, LIRR and MNRR have all had their bouts with signaling on all lines to one degree or another, too. And any one of them towers over MARC and MBTA in train volume and route miles. correct henry so they seem to be holding up better than the others I listed. Worcester line today has another switch and signal problem don't know if it is on CSX ?

But these lines have had or are in the process of installing new cat and new signal systems...most are now cab signals with no wayside signals, and PTC is also being installed where it isn't already. Still, the new equipment seems to have its days where either heat or water or whatever brings problems on a regular basis.

...
Is the reason why the NEC is having cat problems on the Penn side rather than the NH side, because the Penn has fixed cat, and the NH has constant tension cat?

2. Failure around PHL both AMTRAK AND SEPTA.
3. PVD BOS line 4 - 7 signal failures on AMTRAK line slowing it and MBTA.
4. several signal mfailures on MARC worcester line.
5. CSX signal failures out of WASH on both MARC lines and VRE.
6. even NS VRE had a signal failure.
7. Capital corridor even had a couple signal failures but its main delays are due to the SUSISAN bridge
8. even sounder out of seattle has had a few signal failures.
9. Mechanical failures have plagued the above outfits as well. I would be interested to see each commuter agency and AMTRAK's unit failure rate per hour operation. MBTA & MARC seem to have the most failures but they also have a lot of operations. Trains mag can you research this?
