schlimm

In any case, the two ads seem rather ambiguous and not so obviously directed in the way the journalist believes they do.

Agreed. Who says it's not two sisters traveling with the daughter of one of them, or two brothers, etc.? I do not mean to be disingenuous -- I think I know what the "pride" angle is getting at. But a lot depends on where the ads ran. If they ran in gay publications, they're hardly in anybody's face. If they ran mainstream ... why, Amtrak will have to take its chances with blowback like anybody else.

Advertise to markets.  Simple rule of advertising.  If it brings more passengers, then it worked.  If the target audience doesn't respond then it didn't work or wasn't as lucrative a market as percieved.

As an aside, advertising and marketing should be the topic here, and not political or religious or other philosphic meanderings.  I hope it can stay with advertisng for passengers and not something elese.

RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.

I have good faith that the maturity of the members of this forum will allow us to have civil conversation.

I see nothing wrong with the ads.  I also don't believe that this thread can stay away from the debate you claim you are not starting.

So what do you guys thing will be the public reaction to Amtrak's new advertisements considering the political volatility of supporting the gay rights movement?

(Not debating gay rights, public reaction ONLY)
