Amtrak new viewliners put on hold ??
Posted by blue streak 1 on Monday, April 16, 2012 7:44 PM

Saw an unconfirmed report that Amtrak gave CAE a stop order for the new Viewliners.  Does anyone have any information?? Reason given was the delayed deliveries to SEPTA for Silverliner 5s and delayed deliveries to MNRR of the M-8s (100 so far but all should have been delivered )).  If this is correct wonder what this wio do to the 2015 operating plan ??

The report is from the United Rail Passenger Alliance website which is not the most reliable source.

The mentions of the MNRR M-8 and SEPTA Silverliner V  make little sense as they are being built by entirely different companies, not CAF in Elmira NY. The Silverliner V are being assembled in Philadelphia by Hyundai Rotem. The M-8's are being built by Kawasaki. Both the Silverliner V and M-8 EMUs are in revenue service. They also both suffered from delivery schedule delays and teething problems as they underwent testing. Happens.

I searched both the CAF website and Amtrak's site and cannot find any mention of a stoppage.
