Expanded consist Acela tests
Posted by blue streak 1 on Monday, December 5, 2011 8:05 PM

Have received reports and saw a picture of a 9 car Acela test train.  The test train probably used 2 business class cars from another train set and the Acela test car added to a standard 6 car set. Evidently Amtrak is preparing for the 40 extra cars that are planned to be ordered. Operational items such as Acceleration, braking, stopping locations at platforms, current draw, signal compatibility, etc probably are being evaluated. Tests are probably being done on weekends ? AT first I thought that an empty train would not be indicitative of a loaded train's 90,000# + load but the extra test car  is an imperfect fill in. ?

Does anyone have any any more information?
