I agree that Karl Zimmerman is a terrific writer, maybe the best, when it comes to stories about train travel.
More importantly, I completely agree with your comment about the demonstrated need and benefit of long-distance Amtrak travel. I've said this before and I'll keep saying it until the bean-counters and ideologues here chloroform me: No long-distance trains will mean no Amtrak, anywhere, period. No Congressman from any state which loses this long-distance service will vote one more red cent for Amtrak, anywhere, nor for any NEC or regional trains. Why should they?
I know it is a competitive magazine, but I cannot help but draw your attention to Karl Zimmerman's description of Lily's train ride, NY - Denver via NE Regional, Capitol Limited, and CZ, as a good illustration of why long-dsitance train service should be continued. In the latest Passenger Train Journal. A great story.
Karl is both a wonderful person and lucky.
