Commerce is 16.5 track miles west of Fullerton.  If #3 is on time into Fullerton 6:34 a, and passes through Commerce 15 mins later (passenger speed = 60-79) that would put it at 6:49 am.

Commerce would still be dark  Jan 1-Feb 3, Mar 13-Mar 26, Oct 4 - Nov 5, Dec 11-31 with the current time changes.

You guys crack me up....

What I meant to say, if I want to see it arrive, I have to get up in the dark.

Thanks for watching.

#3 (if on schedule) arrives at Fullerton 6:34am and it is 30 minutes or so to LA... Padded schedule... It has been late many times in the last few weeks, here is a view of it coming into Fullerton after 11:00am on July 25th with #1981 leading... and a crew change..

The original poster said LA and also said it usually arrived when it is dark.  Even in December, LA isn't still dark at 8:15 am. Even in November, the latest sunrise is 7:17 am PDT and in January 7:00 am PST.

The west bound Chief goes through Orange County between 6 and 7 AM.  I have seen it a number of times when it stopped in Riverside between 6:30 and & AM on numerous times.   To see it around noon means it was VERY late.

Am not sure what this thread is reporting, but Amtrak Southwest Chief (westbound) train number 3 is always scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles at 0815 PT every day. I cannot understand why someone would say that it "usually arrives in the dark," no matter whether it is PDT or PST. My trips thereon have always arrived during morning daylight hours.

On my trip in April we arrived at Fullerton a few minutes late and it was full daylight.......does it run early at times??? Now it may not be the noon like shot in the video but plenty of light. Some pics of the Southwest at Fullerton on my site below or www.currtail.com

This train usually arrives in the dark, so a friend's headsup alerted me to a daylight arrival into Los Angeles.

Fixed the link. for you!

The Southwest Chief has been having problems of late. Morning of 07/22/2011. it took about a 7 hour delay at Dodge City,Ks. going Eastbound. It was due to a suspicious package found in a Sleeper car, and the delay was while it was identified and removed.

Any ideas on the reason for the delay Westbound on this trip as noted?
