Missouri River Runner Fare Hike
Posted by ZSmith on Saturday, March 12, 2011 3:50 PM

A little over a year ago I rode the Missouri River Runner from Kansas City to St. Louis, all fares were $25. I just recently checked again and morning fares are now $65 while mid-day fares have only had a slight increase ($28). Why the change?

Amtrak works with a demand marketing plan.  If you paln your trip in advance, you'll get a better price than if you wait...the closer to departure, the fuller the train, the higher demand for seats, the higher the price.

RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.

Can you say market based pricing, AKA charging what the market will bear?  Airlines have been doing it for decades, as does any business that can figure out how to do it.
