Today's Empire Builder
Posted by kortum27 on Monday, December 13, 2010 11:43 PM

The recent weather and the epic snowstorm in the Midwest over the weekend have contributed to some interesting train watching times for both train 7 and 8, the Empire Builder.

This morning, train 7 was observed westbound through Elk River, MN around 6:30 am which is closer to the time train 8 runs through eastbound.  Train 7 normally passes through Elk River around midnight so it was 6 and one half hours late from Chicago.  Then tonight, train 8 ran through Elk River eastbound at 11:15 pm, over 17 hours late.  A rare event may happen tonight at St. Paul's Midway station.  Both train 7 and 8 may occupy the depot at the same time since tonight's train 7 is about an hour and a half late from Chicago.  Maybe someone can get over there to get a photo if it comes to pass?
