As there a lot of rail tours through Switzerland available you should perhaps tell us a bit more about the one you consider.
I rode Swiss trains frequently when I was younger, it always was a pleasant experience. The only one I missed was the Glacier Express but the sole part of its journey I did not ride on other trains is between Andermatt and Chur. Unfortunately, I'm too old now for that trip.
textomI am considering a tour package of Switzerland by rail. I would like to know if any readers have taken this tour and about your experiences.
I would be happy to make suggestions if you are planning on doing it on your own, I would also offer my opinion on the tour if you point me to any information about it. Also are you bringing along a non-railfan partner who will want to see non-rail related sites?
I would definitely ride the following electric narrow gauge routes, as scenicly and operationally terrific for a railfan, with lots of curves to permit beautiful photography from open windows:
Andermat Dessinteis Chur San Mortitz
San Moritz- Tirano, Italy. Some interurban flavor, with main street running in a few towns/
If you can, find out which trains are multilple unit electric passenger cars rather than locomotive hauled trains. My experience was that on mu equipment, the engineer would invite you to ride on the front platform, after you stood for a while behind the door separating the platform from the interior. I hope things have not changed.
