Amtrak runs around an eastbound freight double stack on the # 2 track in the distance by using the #1 track and uses the crossover at Rocklin to get back on the # 2 eastbound mainline.   

I found it interesting that the protection signals do not show any color until the train is on the # 2 track.

  It appears that the signals are 'approach lit' - they only are lighted for a facing train.  Once the engine and first few cars are into the block to your right in the picture, the signal will light up.  This saves battery life and lamp life.  Pretty normal on many railroads.
