I took Amtrak 280 and 281 back and forth from Rochester to New York City two weeks ago. They seem to be on time at every station. No hurry at Albany or Syracuse to change engineers. Most of the speed reported by the detectors appeared to be far less then track speed. Of course, being winter there was no track work or track crews.
This makes me wonder how much times could be reduced if there was a third track? The estimates that I have heard seem very conservative.
