I am re-reading Louis V. Grogan's "The Coming of the New York and Harlem Railroad". A couple of items of interest: The Budd SPV-2000s were used, for a short time, on the "Harlem Line". What was their problem? Are any still in operation anywhere? There are, also, a couple of pictures of ex-NYC RDC-3 M-497. That was the one NYC ourfitted with a couple of jet engines, on the roof, and it set a speed rocord (187 mph???). The jets were removed and it went into service on the "Harlem Line". I doubt that it has been preserved, after its "15-minutes of Glory". There is also a picture of one of the jet-engine snowblowers at work. Cool, to say the least! There was one parked at ALB a few years ago. Is it still there?
As I understand it, the SPV's were plagued with electical and mechanical problems and never lived up to the RDC. After a long snooze in the yard at Harmon I saw them last...several weeks ago...reposing at NJT's Meadows complex.
