This time it was a tractor trailer full of limestone.

THOMASVILLE, N.C. Police say a man has died after he was struck by an Amtrak train in Thomasville.
Yet again a tractor trailer has lost the battle with the Piedmont (train#73).
How do we get these drivers to stop playing chicken with a train?

I didn't in any way point the finger of blame at the operators of the train.
I merely pointed out the coincidence that the same train has been involved in an accident in the same general geographic area in less than a year.
Your engineer friend didn't kill anyone. The people on the tracks killed themselves. It really is that simple and I pray he doesn't anguish for those wayward souls.
Trains don't kill people. The tracks are there, in plain sight. If you're on the tracks, you're going to get hurt or killed, simple as that. No way the NC Piedmont Strikes Again as the original post says. If you walk on the tracks you don't care about life. It's really that simple. Not the fault of the engineer in any way, shape, or form.
I know only what was in the newspaper article.
Phoebee: A check of the NCDOT's master plan track layouts shows the KAN station at MP349.1 and the first grade crossing E. 18th St(MP 347.5) and the next E.22nd st (MP 347.2). This would include 1 mile north of the station but the news report doesn't say where the 1 mile was measured from.
If these persons crossed the ROW instead of at a grade crossing it makes this a double tradgedy. Are you able to pin down the location? If they crossed the ROW would the nursing home be somewhat liable for them crossing ROW?
