Fourty some odd years ago, I used to spend a lot of time at the Paoli Station watching the parade of PRR/PC long distance & commuter trains. Just to the west of the station there was a large yard & service facilities for the MP54's & Silverliners that held down the main line commuter services.

I recently noticed on "Google Earth" that the yard is no longer there and is being replaced by  something under construction. With all of the former Reading & PRR commuter lines now connected, is there not a need for a layover yard at the western end of the "Main Line"?? Has it been mover further west?? If not, then how is the morning inbound rush handled?? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks, John

Part of the answer is that Paoli shop was so contaminated with PCBs that it had to be demolished and the yard dug up.  I believe there is a facility originally built for the AEM7s and push pull coaches a bit farther west that SEPTA uses to a minor degree.

Most of their shop work was consolidated to the RDG side after the Center City tunnel was built.
