Posted by cbqjohn on Monday, April 27, 2009 7:32 PM

Does anyone on this forum remember where the PRR coach and freight yards were in Chicago?

Thanks,

John

Coach Yard was at 12th St.  Locomotive Servicing was at 16th ST, still in use by Amtrak.

55th Street, Colehour and Dolton appear to have been the three major yards.  55th was downtown, Colehour was on the east-west main and Dolton was south on the line to St. Louis.

55th Street is still in use as an intermodal terminal, Dolton was closed and removed in the mid-1960's, and Colehour seems to be more of a storage yard now.  59th Street on the Panhandle Line was recently re-established by CSX as an intermodal terminal.

It became a housing development, mostly townhouses and apartments.
