The equipment repair news is very interesting. I was surprised to see that they're repairing the Viewliner prototype Diner 8400 - apparently it's going to be used on the Lake Shore Limited. Still, it'll be interesting to know a one-of-a-kind car is operating once again. It sounds like 15 of the P40's will be brought back onto long-distance trains, too. That'll be neat, none of those units have been run for many years.
It may be deep in other threads, but Amtrak's full project list for the ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) is published as of March 25, 2009. It has interesting detailed information about the NEC and what is happening to their P40s.
