I recently was reviewing the forum with another person looking over my shoulder, and they suggested another solution for non stop train service NYP-ORL and CHI-ORL. What if Disney wanted to run nonstops? Should Disney work with Amtrak? CSX? NS? If Amtrak, should Disney use all Amtrak equipment? Or,just Amtrak loco's and head end crews, and provide everything else? More importantly, could Disney operate with today's railroad system in place?
Disney has invested a lot of $$ on Disney World (and Land), and I can understand why Disney would want to find another way of getting people to its sites, what with the $$ problems associated with airtravel, and autotravel. I also believe that if Disney got behind an Interstate Railway System, the Fed Gov and Americans would sit up and take notice. Heck, Disney might even develope a locomotive just for the Disney Train (like the old EMD FL-9) that would allow for faster north-south transit by removing the need of stopping to change electrified/non-electrified locos.
Is it time to consider non-railroad players in the future of passenger railroad transportation?

If you look at modern American big business you will notice the trend is for companies to avoid diversifying into other business area (otherwise known as sticking with a firm's "core competencies"). There are exceptions such as General Electric which are still more like the conglomerates of old but as a rule Wall Street frowns on companies branching out too much. Although Disney is certainly involved (as a joint venture partner with the ship owner) in the Cruise industry I do not think they have any desire to be in the intercity transportation business.
It's a very different business climate and they are a very different company than back in Walt's day...
