Does anyone know why Amtrak used a diesel locomotive on their premiere electric line?
The Secret Service required it so that the train could not be stopped by damaging the wires.
I have wondered if the Secret Service would allow a president's train to go to New York. Possibly they'd tack on an electric and let the diesels ride along with engines idled low through the tunnels.
Somebody had mentioned that Baltimore's stop was at Camden Yards. Can anybody confirm, and where did POTUS cross from Amtrak to CSX? I'd assume it would have been easier to have a motorcade transfer from Penn Station to speech location, since they probably would have needed a motorcade even from Camden Yards to whatever Greek collumned building had the speech.

My guess would be that the President's Train WOULD be allowed into New York (or anywhere else in the Country) that he wanted it to go. There is nothing "secret-service" related as why he wouldn't be enabled to go anytime he wanted to? Understand; The President used to have his own private RAILCAR to be used anytime he traveled by rail. I believe that last modern Presidential railcar was recently (few years ago anyhow) retired from Government ownership and sold to a train museum down South someplace?? Once that big 747 jumbo jet (Air Force 1) was purchased and the speed and safety of air travel was "tasted" over the hassle of rail service, the rail car was sidelined long term. But I'd like to see the President USE rail over air any chance he can.
