That is quite a stretch to say that there will be passenger trains at Callicoon.  It is on the old Erie Delaware Division, the eastern end of to day's NS Southern Tier Line that is leased to the Central New York Railway which is a subsidiary of the New York, Susquehanna and Western's parent Delaware-Otsego System. Suzy Q operates it.  The agreemtent with NS is that there will be no passenger trains operated on the line (I have read the agreement so I know this is true).  Niether NJT nor MNRR have  eyes for the line west of Port Jervis.  The Morristown and Erie company is the new operator of the Honesdale line from Lackawaxen.  But there is no mention of any other railroad in that part of the Delaware Valley.  Wilson's equipment is in beautiful condition and is and should be well used for special trips and occasions.  But I can't concieve of anything happening along the Delaware Division for a long, long, long time.  If then.

I tend to agree with your skepticism.  I lived in Callicoon and Lake Huntington during the early '70s when the wearie Erie was putting a train on the ground every couple of months.

An old friend from those days sent me that article in the Sullivan County Democrat.

Can't compare the Erie or the EL of the 70's to today's railroad or railroading.  Track is fairly well maintained to the standards that NYSW needs. The real factors involved with the article is that there is no reason to go to Callacoon by train at the moment and there is no way the NS would allow it under present agreements.  What is overlooked, by the way, it that the NS could be the one's to authorize any passenger train movement should anyone want to or have to. So far, I don't believe the question has been asked.  I also feel that most involved feel that NS would say "no" anyway so haven't asked. I believe there are other factors at work here starting with the niavete` of the reporter.
