I left a new post in the Transit thread on today's Washington Post editorial.
Road construction has thousands of contractors who make big contributions to politicians to keep the building of roads on the forefront of the National dole.
Railroads have a very limited number of contractors and suppliers to attempt to do the same thing.
The one thing about the US form of government as it is practiced today is that it is the best govenment money can buy!

I posted a new thread in the "Transit" forum about the federal government's disapproval yesterday of the Washington, DC, Metrorail extension to Dulles Airport west of Washington.

That's the forum where it really belongs, but I'm posting here, too. The implications of this decision for all passenger rail are ominous because there is probably no more beneficial 23 miles of passenger rail under discussion anywhere in the U.S. I believe that passenger rail is doomed as far as the federal government is concerned, if they can't approve this one.
