You're right (the transit authority is Metrolink). Metrolink dispatches this line as well. And yes, the freights are mostly at night. But there are two unique local switchers for both BNSF and UP that travel on the line around noon time.

Looks like the RR between LA and San Diego is out of service that weekend. Amtrak.com shows Surfliners north of LA, but only busses south that weekend. Also, shows train the prev. Friday and following Monday. Sounds like BNSF is doing some work on the line, perhaps?

When I request a Los Angeles - San Diego trip Sept 15 and a San Diego - Los Angeles trip Sept 16 on www.amtrak.com, the only options it provides are bus trips - no trains. Why is that?
