The count of cars to stop would still be the same as the cars are about 80 feet plus or minus a few. When the Conductor says 8 cars he gives updates and usually "that will do" when the train is about to be where the Conductor wants the train to stop. The Conductor judges this by how slowly the train is going and can pretty well get the train stopped right where he/she wants it.

Amtrak Conductors Stop Signals

I know what all of the "talk" means between conductor and engineer on most Amtrak trains.Onething I don't know is how they measure the car counts before stops. Scince I am most familiar with the Flyer from OKC to FTW , and all of the car doors are in the middle of every car, it would be a lot more difficult i think than being at the front or rear of a horizon or vestibuled amfleet car?

Hope I could get some info, HF1001
