How Amtrak could speed up returning out of service equipment to service

Post on news wire  was a suggestion for Amtrak to hire the mechanical persons UP is furloughing.  If even 1/2 of the 92 came to Amtrak the GE locos could receive a lot more TLC.

But wait would that be considered increasing costs that would effect the bonus?  It will never happen.

Those guys have skills that are useful in many industries.  How many of those 92 are willing to move any substantial distance to work for amtrak?

While Amtrak may have some diesel power issues (Seeing 2 units on a 4 car Capitol Limited raises a question in my mind).  What Amtrak really needs is mechanical personnel that have the skills necessary for repair of passenger occupied equipment.  Freight carmen and Passenger carmen are trained in similar but different disciplines.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!
