Today at Friday at 1100 . Amtrak had a failure of their CAT between New Rochell and NYP. It is not know exactly where as Amtrak has not specificed where. Probably not the replaced CAT from New Rochelle and Gate where voltage changes from 12. 5 Kv 60 Hz but more likely the 12 Kv 25 Hz on into NYP. However it does not appear that Sunnyside to NYP is affected ? The failure happened sometime before 0900 according to earlier Amtrak blogs. The following link as of 1100 makes it appear that there is going to be extensive delays north of NYP. No delays noted for MNRR aroun New Rochelle.
EDIT Evidently Acela 2150 north bound last train thru at about 0840.
SERVICE DISRUPTION: Due to a catenary wire down east of New York (NYP) all service between New Haven and New York will be suspended for a minimum of 4 hours. Crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible. Updates to follow as more information becomes available.
Amtrak is starting to flip some trains back to BOS
SERVICE DISRUPTION UPDATE: Metro North is cross honoring Amtrak tickets between New York and New Haven.
UPDATE: An on-time section of Acela 2150 is operating from New Haven (NHV) to Boston (BOS).
Edit: guess Amtrak will not bus NYP <> NYG ?
Still more problems and changes.
continue: UPDATE SERVICE DISRUPTION: Metro North (located in Grand Central Station) is cross honoring Amtrak tickets between New York and New Haven.
UPDATE SERVICE DISRUPTION: The following Trains will terminate: Acela Train 2155 and 2159 at New Haven; Acela Train 2153 at Stamford; Train 95 and 171 at New Haven; Train 141 at New Rochelle. Customers may use Metro North or speak with Customer Service for assistance.
CAT restored at about 204 PM
UPDATE SERVICE DISRUPTION: Service has been restored between New York (NYP) and New Haven (NHV). Residual delays are to be expected. Westbound Train 83 will operate first followed by Acela 2163, Train 173, Acela 2165. Eastbound: Train 56, 174, Acela 2164, Train 176, Acela 2166.

But the failure was not in MN territory and did not involve their catenary.
daveklepperBut the failure was not in MN territory and did not involve their catenary.
Perhaps then you can explain how there could be a catenary failure on the NEC 'between New Rochelle and NYP' that is not 'in MN territory'.
Perhaps there is something there I don't see.
It's Metro North cat.
The point that concers us is======= CAT replacement on MNRR to constant tension ( called auto tension by MNRR ) is now scheduled to not finish until 3rd quarter FY 2021. That is almost 2 years longer than originally planned. now what is FY 2021 actual dates is unknown here. What is a worry is that the replacement work closes up to 1 or 2 tracks so along with the Walk bridge work that has 2 tracks closed can really constrain MNRR and Amtrak trains.
Amtrak owns New Rochelle to Harold Tower in Woodside, Queens, and the LIRR, two tracks, and Amtrak, two tracks, Woodside - Penn Sta. Metro North doew not even operate on those tracks except when exchanging equipment with the fellow Metro Transit LIRR. There are plans for New Haven line trains to run to :Penn, but at the present time the only users of the Hell Gate Bridge are Amtrak and the freight railroads CSX, CP, and P&W, for interchange with NY&A (LIRR-freight) at Fresh Pond Junction in Queens.
Currently all Metro North trains into Manhattan run only to GCT.
The catenary discussed is Amtrak's.
Ooooops, there is always an exception, and MN did operate over the Hell Gate Btidge with dual-power NJT locos for special trains to and from the stadium in New Jersey, with the cooperation of Amtrak.

Not. The catenary is New Rochelle to the NY CT border.

The OP was about "Amtrak had a failure of their CAT between New Rochell and NYP. ", and then the subject got expanded to the MN line north of New Rochelle. Other posters seem to be conflating the two.
I see that now. Blue streak's posts were confusing. Apologies due Dave.

One statement in the nj.com article got me - to the effect, with one tunnel shut down traffic is limited to 6 trains per hour. WTF. Maybe if you are going both directions on a train for train basis - since it was Rush Hour - everything would fleeted outbound and there would not be the down time of reverseing traffic,
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
The exact nature of this power failure is unknown .
NJT bulletin
