PV placement on ATK 591
Posted by erikem on Monday, June 12, 2017 11:16 PM

I was about to do a bit of shopping yesterday eveing in "downtown Cardiff" and heard the horn from anapproaching train. It was a northbound Surflner running cab car first, but what caught my eye was that a car lettered "Pullman" in UP colors was trailing the locomotive. Don't remember seeing any trains made up like that before.

The private car has no pass through lines for locomotive control in a push-pull consist. It had to go in a spot that doesn't break the circuit between the cab car and locomotive. That spot has to be behind the locomotive.

Makes sense. I've seen PV's on the Surfliners before and they were usually trailing the cab car. Having the locomotive between the train and the PV did seem to be a good way to maintain privacy...
