The Piedmont (train #76) has had another accident.  This time it was two pedestrians.  Again it was in Kannapolis, NC

Just the other day I was talking with a retired engineer friend of mine - he told me in his 40 some years of railroading he killed 26 people with the locomotive.

Seriously, If you're gonna walk on the tracks look, listen, and live!

Phoebee:  A check of the NCDOT's master plan track layouts shows the KAN station at MP349.1 and the first grade crossing E. 18th St(MP 347.5) and the next E.22nd st (MP 347.2). This would include 1 mile north of the station but the news report doesn't say where the 1 mile was measured from.

If these persons crossed the ROW instead of at a grade crossing it makes this a double tradgedy. Are you able to pin down the location? If they crossed the ROW would the nursing home be somewhat liable for them crossing ROW?

Trains don't kill people.  The tracks are there, in plain sight.  If you're on the tracks, you're going to get hurt or killed, simple as that. No way the NC Piedmont Strikes Again as the original post says.  If you walk on the tracks you don't care about life.  It's really that simple.  Not the fault of the engineer in any way, shape, or form.

Your engineer friend didn't kill anyone.  The people on the tracks killed themselves. It really is that simple and I pray he doesn't anguish for those wayward souls.

I didn't in any way point the finger of blame at the operators of the train.

I merely pointed out the coincidence that the same train has been involved in an accident in the same general geographic area in less than a year.
