Anybody who has seen the Michigan City street running knows that moving to side of street would be incredibly expensive since there are almost no vacant lots along 10th and 11th Streets.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Hey I forgot to mention that part of this project and it's cost is relocation of the railroad line in Michigan City from the middle of the street to the side of the street for the street running there.

It would take a convoluted route out of Chicago to use the former Monon between Hammond and Dyer.  The CWI between Pullman Jct. and State Line has been abandoned and while the South Shore could be used south of Kensington, it would take the usual backup move to reach the IC from Chicago Union Station.

Wow so it looks like this is one example of a rails to trails becomming rails again with the Monon trail providing some of the South Shore Line ROW.    Link with map link below:

Too short to be a new exit from Chicago for Amtrak, unfortunately.    Would be nice if some day Amtrak could shared the route for future Indianapolis Service, thats if they put down more track and a rail connection further south could be found.
