Riders on the recently-opened Skyliner ride at Walt Disney World were stranded for over an hour due to a power failure. Information from cell-phone reports.
The Skyliner is a cable suspended gondola, much like ones used as ski lifts. Although at some ski areas, like Telluride, they are also used as transit, to get from the town to the upper resort village.

What I hear is that a (presumably-detached) gondola parked at the Riviera Resort station had another one run into it, hard enough to dislodge some of the glass. Delay as I heard it was over three hours (but with at least the ability to reach the cars via an intercom system).
Not a simple power failure or mechanical 'breakdown'.

Every gondola at any ski area I rode was detachable. High speed chairlifts are also detachable. The gondolas detach from the high speed main cable at the stations, then a latch pushes the support hanger slowly thru the loading area. If a latch broke, I could see the following car banging into it. They can also switch the cars off to a storage rail.
Last week, one could see the Disney Skyliner system operating periodically without passengers.
The system returned to service Monday, a about ten days after passengers were stranded for approximately three hours. Walt Disney World’s official website and the My Disney Experience app stated that the system would operate from 8 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Monday. Also, on Wednesday, the Hollywood Studio line will shut down for “system updates,” but the other two lines will run from 1-10:30 p.m. All lines will run from 1-10:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
