A Philadelphia visit and obtaining a Senior Citiaen's Transit Pass

Hi:

A visit with family who live in Philly or were visiting the city, prompted my wife and I, our daughter and grandchildren to go there on Friday morning.

As it turned out, we were meeting at Reading Terminal Market for lunch, and after parking our car I immediately walked over to SEPTA HQ 1234 Market St., about a block and half away to get my Senior SEPTA Key card.  The area where the applications are processed is next to the restored PCC on the lower level.  Since I had printed the application from SEPTAs website and completed it, the customer service rep only had to give me a ticket, #143, similar to what one receives at a deli counter in a supermarket.  At the time, 12:20 PM, #95 had just been called.  I told the woman that I would go to Reading Market to have lunch with my family and she said not to take too much time as the process was "moving along.”

Back at Reading Terminal Market I found the family and we all had lunch.  After finishing mine I returned to SEPTA HQ arriving at 1:15 PM.  I don’t know what constitutes “moving along”, but #123 had just been called.  When my number was finally called, it would be nearly two hours since I had first arrived.  Once inside one of the two rooms which produce the card, the process took less than five minutes.

For those who are interested, “This card is good for FREE travel on all SEPTA Transit routes - bus, trolley, trackless trolley, and Market-Frankford, Broad Street, and Norristown High Speed Lines.  When traveling on Regional Rail, present this card to the Conductor and pay the appropriate reduced fare ($1.00 for destinations in PA, 50% of Weekday Fare for stations in NJ/DE.”

So there you have it, allow plenty of time.

Randy
