081552 (12-11):

That video showed interesting views for sure!

But, I went further, and watched other videos for other Metrolink lines in the link that you posted, until one video locked up.  Oh well!  One video surprise was on the San Bernardino Line in Covina.  Wye or equilateral switches are used.   In riding the line myself a number of times over the years I could have sworn those CP’s had traditional switches.  The west switch is by a grade crossing, so next time I’m out that way I hope to see and photograph that wye switch.  It still is hard to believe that that two-track line through Covina used to be single track a half a century ago, and switch engines that went by my house towards the eastern end of the line went by Covina too!  Of course, when one is a kid, points of that line seemed a thousand miles away!

Back on the Perris Valley Line, the video of the March Field stop made me think that that was a perfect place, on each side of the stop, to put in crossovers, so a siding of sorts would be present for Metrolink meets.  That would be close to midway between Riverside and Perris too!  It will be interesting to see if Metrolink ever does that.  Such signals would ensure no freight goes through the station stop with Metrolink patrols on the platform.

You may be interested in knowing that I was in Perris yesterday, and extensively investigated and photographed a weird grade crossing in the South Perris area.  In a few days I hope to post photos and give an assessment of it in the “Perris Valley Line Updates” thread in the “General Discussions” group.

Take care,

K.P.

Cool video from Metrolink on the new Perris Valley line. It looks like they used lots of drone shots!
