The first picture is Metro North at Irvington, NY, and no, the LION is not on the station.
The Second picture is on the Long Island Rail Road, and yes, the LION is on the switch, but it is not a motor. Those are hand thrown switches in that yard. Probaly the last passenger yard in the USA iwth hand thrown switches for so much traffic. There are three switch tenders housed in what used to be a gas station. One of them is the boss and stay in the station, the other two get to run around with walkie talkies to move the switches as directed. When a train is to move through the intersection, the boss guy in the house throws an simple safety type switch mounded on the wall of their hut, and the gates will come down to block the roads. He closes the crossing gates when the train begins to leave the yard, but it is still several minutes from the crossing.
I spent an afternoon there watching the trains come and go, and taking pictures. LION was standing on a public street although him might as well have been in the yard itself.
