GREENPORT WEEKENDS...
Posted by henry6 on Monday, October 21, 2013 6:57 PM

LIRR has announced it will continue two Saturday and two Sunday round trip trains from Ronkonkoma to Greenport through Thanksgiving to allow leaf peeping and winery visiting.  The year round weekend service was cut out several years ago under tight budgets but has been partially restored this year.  The North Fork is a very pretty ride, includes two railroad museums (Riverhead and Greenport) plus a whaler/fishing museum in the former Greenport Station.   Good restaurants nearby, Shelter Island Ferry at the end of the track!   It is a charming ride...and if you live there you leave NYP at 9:15AM, arrive about 12Noon, leave just after 6 PM if you want to really enjoy Greenport, or grab a sandwich and the 1:11 train back.  Well worth whatever ride you choose!

RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.
