The "Record" of Bergen County, NJ reports New Jersey Transit has more delayed trains on the Northeast Corridor Line (91.7 per cent of trains on time) than on either of its other two lines (Main/Bergen County 97.4 per cent on time and Pascack Valley 97.5 per cent on time.) This is the same Northeast Corridor Line Amtrak owns. NJT operates on the section beginning at Morrisville, PA just south of Trenton and ending at Sunnyside Yards on Long Island. One in 12 morning rush hour trains are delayed; afternoon rush hour and off peak trains are less frequently delayed.
Causes of delays are failing cars and infrastructure, about one half. Passenger and public problems, one fifth to one quarter; human error about one tenth.
Some delays are caused by conflicts between NJT management and Amtrak management. NJT managers claim Amtrak gives preference to its own trains. However, Amtrak spokesman Cliff Cole says there ae multiple factors to consider and sometimes NJT trains get preference.
NJT pays Amtrak $70 million a year to use the line.
