Hey everyone,
I was on my way into New York this afternoon and as our train (New Jersey Transit Local) was pulling into the station an Amtrak Regional (I'm assuming) was on the middle Northbound Track. It was lead by an AEM-7 but had MBTA cars for the entire consist. Does anyone have any insight on what is going with this or do they have any pictures?
Thanks.
Amtrak has regularly borrowed whole consists and groups of cars from the commuter operators using its tracks for heavy travel periods such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. This is the first I have heard of such a borrowing during a regular Saturday or Sunday. It could have been some special move. Possibly an advance section running only Philadelphia - NY to prevent overcrowding on the regular Washington - NY -Boston train.
TRAINS had an arfticle on Amtrak's handling of Thanksgiving Day crowds about two years ago.
MBTA has a bunch of cars that they are sending to Delaware Car for work. They use Amtrak to transport the cars back and forth.
