The Onion is often so funny.  Now we can wait for the usual naysayers to chime in.

The first buses to be retrofit will be baggage buses, I hear.

Energy efficient, natural air conditioning makes this the perfect choice for light density routes.

For main line service, a perfect fit of economy and practicality.

I always thought the Onion in print was funny, but the Onion in animation video had me in tears and hiccups it was that funny.  I especially liked the streamlined noses on the buses along with the plan to have them weave through traffic when a high-speed shoulder lane is not available.

If GM "killed the electric car", what am I doing standing next to an EV-1, a half a block from the WSOR tracks?

...and the retrofit cost of $40/bus

...and the "cafe" -a  guy with a cooler full of tamales

...and the "premium seats" that board only after the AC is turned on

Those guys should visit Las Vegas.  We have some articulated people carriers that look like an unsanctified union of a double-bottom gravel truck and a TGV.

Don't know their top speed, but they could be re-geared and put into LA - Las Vegas service (instead of the Desert Xpress)

The stock trailers may not be all that far-fetched.   As a kid in Honduras around 1950, on one train trip there was a breakdown, and after a long wait, we had to continue our trip on "the local."   The passenger cars on this train were converted banana cars, which were boxcars with slats with gaps between them, similar to stock cars.   These were used to ship bananas from the interior to the ports.    Wooden seats had been installed in them, and we got to enjoy the scenery by peering through the slots.   Not exactly HSR.

So close to the truth to be really scary!  Looks like something D C politicians would just love to fund.

now if this was in OHIO or WISCONSIN. I could believe it, even though it is a satirical news source.
