Trains ran interurban fashion in Greenleaf Avenue in Wilmette, a block north of Linden Avenue, to a private row on the east side of the C&NW. Service was discontinued on July 25, 1955. See the CERA Bulletin 107, Map 1, p 174 for a track schematic.
So did they turn up that small portion of Linden to get there?
It was street-running on Greenfield Avenue, double-track, just like any normal streetcar line. Remember that the Shore Line route was not built at one time. It grew from a series of local streetcar lines that connected and merged. The CERA Bulletin (beautiful hard-cover book) "Interurban to Milwaukee" is your best source of information. Glad I rode it.
No, they crossed Linden to the east of the CRT/CTA station and terminal. On PROW with the station on the north side of Linden, IIRC. Then the line curved to the west to enter the in-street trackage on Greenleaf Avenue that Dave and the others have already mentioned. Hope this helps, Art
