It is an arguement that goes back to 1776 I am sure...and as long as there is a New York State it will continue.  Its emotional and political.  Fact don't count in such arguements.  And, I apologize for argueing the case here.

Please guys: Where are the facts to support your arguments?. I would imagine there is a report by New York State breaking down income and spending for each county?. Find it and post link.

No, it is we Upstaters who get shortchanged on projects and help because most of our tax dollars delivered to Albany end up south of Westchester.  In reality we do lose a lot of school and highway and other public dollars unless it is when NYC wants to drain our land of water or house the criminal population.  What has to be done is that every thing from Orange and Rockland counties east to the CT border and south the the Atlantic Ocean should become one state and everything north and west of that area be another state.  It is the fear of that becoming a reality that keeps us from having a Constitutional Convention to iron out a lot of our problems.

In other words, if you want to live and work in New York City and the Metropolitan area, then be prepared to pay for the transportation system you need to survive and not ask Bliss, Benson, or Burlington Flats residents to pay for it.

Unfortunately, New York State government puts commuter and inter-city rail at the bottom of the funding priority list. The Governor says he has a funding plan but told the press he is keeping it secret until the legislature has to vote on it on Monday. That probably means he doesn't have a clue what to do.

NYC never gets back as much as it contributes in taxes. So you upstaters aren't goping to lose anything. No one is talking about taking anything away from you in terms of schools, public funding of transportation, health care or anything else. Yet everytime there is budget crisis it's thos of us from NYC who are asked to shore up the state's budget. And it isn't first time this has happened. And we've been told by at least one US President to drop dead. This kind of attitude doesn't help anybody.

Its not Doomsday.  It is the date fare increases coupled with elimination of lesser used services take effect. Such days have happened often in the past without the end of the world: most people still get up and go to work no matter what it costs unless they can find a way to go more cheaply.   Doomsday would be the day all services stop and MTA, MNRR, and LIRR have not said they would do that.

I don't know how regularly this topic is covered here but June 1, 2009 is the first of several Doomsdays in NYC. On that date fares are slated to increase at least 50 cents and service on the commuter,  subway, and bus lines is to be slashed. The result is probably going to be even more job losses in the city because people won't be able to afford to get to work or even find a way to get if there is no public transportation running.

And far be it for the NY Legislature or the governor to do much about it because they are keeping whatever plans they have to rescue the situation quiet. What are they afraid of? That the people will find out that they really have no plan?
