Metra is sending some of the F40PHs off for a rebuild, so they are using the two remaining F40Cs to fill in the power gap. 611 led a train down the MD-N yesterday and was spotted today leading as well. 614 is supposed to be coming back into service as well.

Metra F40C Operating Today
Posted by MILW205 on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 8:56 AM

FWIW, this morning around 8:30 I spotted an F40C with a consist at the north leads to Union Station.  It was paired up with an F40PH.  I understand that Metra uses F40C's as backup power, and also that they used an F40C to honor the retirement of an engineer on 12/31/08.  Nice to see these old guys!  Anyone else seen them operating lately?
