California HST gets green light by voters

Why has it taken people so long to figure out that high speed rail travel is a solution to our problems? Someone has finally done something intelligent.

This is just a start, but it will give us a boost to spread hsr, and to spread rail travel in general.

This is a really smart move by Californians. This will increase employment, infuse money into the economy, spur growth in electricity production, and reduce polution; all the while delivering high-speed transit.

I think 220-MPH is a little high but you could easily get the 186-MPH standard, and by the time the sytems begins operating 220 may be the standard.

And the growth could lead to lines to Las Vagas and north to Portland and Seattle.  Such moves would make the West Coast Corridors the center of passenger services in the US.   It would also provide the "real-world" cost data the NIMBY and BANANA crowd ask for when trying to close down any real efforts in other states.  It's now a real possibility we will see lines in the Midwest states, Ohio, and Texas.

The first move is to expand eletricity production.  I would suggest talking to T. Boone Pickens, and investing in Wind-power technology.  The state is also investing in home solar power systems.  This will free up current production for the rails.

This could easily fuel growth in California for decades.  Smart move.

Finally! something really needed to be done, now if they can just muzzle the NIMBY and the BANANA whining crybabies who will likely be the first to use this service once its available, we'll start making some progress.

The fact that this passed in the midst of all our budget problems speaks volumns about how frustrated people who've actually tried traveling around the state are getting. I want to be able to travel from Marseille to Paris in 3 hours here as well...
