Pittsburgh light rail tunnel project video

For an "insider's" view of tunneling progress on Pittsburgh's North Shore Connector project, check out the 6/12/08 video report from the Pgh Tribune-Review at www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/search/s_572262.html . (Click "Video: Boring under the river.") Winston Simmonds, Port Authority's rail operations and engineering officer, gives the tour. Impressive how these boring/lining machines work. Simmonds says they're nearing the 10th St. Bypass. That means they've almost reached the Allegheny River's downtown side. Then it's on to the relocating Gateway station at Stanwix St. and Liberty Ave., where they'll rotate the machine and bore a twin tube back to the North Shore side.
