Location in "historic" PATH photo?

Poking around with MSN maps came up with this. If you compare the 2 while the yard is gone the houses to a fair degree match up. Also the trees in front of the house are bigger.

YOur description and mine agree.   Look at a map and you will see why.   YOu gave the location from a PATH passenger's perspective, I from an NEC (Amtrak or Jersey Transit) rider'd view.

If you mean a PRR passenger station, there wasn't any.

That's the one he's thinking of. Pretty sure there never was an elevator at Henderson St yard-- no need.

I don't think you've described the correct location for the PATH maintenance facility. It's on the south side of the eastbound track between Harrison and Journal Square, near Amtrak/NJT/PRR Hudson Tower, isn't it? Secaucus Transfer was north east of there wasn't it, closer to the current Secaucus Junction. It was kind of in the middle of nowhere in the meadows back in the day...

Also, didn't/doesn't Hoboken have a similar one (two?) car elevator? I remember seeing maintenance cars poking out of the door down there at the end of Hudson Street and Hudson Place. Henderson Street Yard and Shops is the correct answer, and of interest is that is was connected to the rail system between Exchange Place and Grove Street Stations by a one-car vertical elevator off a siding just south of the eastbound track.   The siding is still there and can be seen from an eastbound train, any going to the World Trade Center, but the elevator and yard are not.

The new yard and shops are near the old location of Manhattan Transfer in the Jersey Meadows west of the Sacaucus Transfer Station.   A New Jersey Transit simple yard is nearby on the corridor line, and you can see the PATH facility from the corridor line on the south side of a train.   An additional yard remains in service west of the Journal Square Station, and this used to be the main yard.

 Because of its elevator connection, the Henderson Street facility was used more for storage and repair and major overhaul than as a running yard.   I am surprised to see the tracks so full of cars in the photograph.  In the early 1970's I was there on an inspection trip, and there were far fewer cars located there.

Henderson St yard/shops in Jersey City, a bit less than half a mile west of the river. PATH runs under the right-hand street; PRR was overhead on an elevated until the 1960s. The yard was replaced 20? years ago-- probably no trace of it on the surface now. Henderson St is now Luis Munoz Marin Blvd, isn't it?
