In my reply I did not name my favorite shortline or passenger railroad

My favorite shortline is the M&ET and the SP passenter trains (The Daylight and the Lark)

My favorite railroad is the BNSF.   I think that they are the best run Class 1 in north america.  That is why I model them as well.

My favorite class 1 still in operation is Union Pacific

My favorite fallen flag railroad is the Chicago and North Western

My favorite regional is Iowa Interstate

In my experience, the light at the end of the tunnel is usually the train.

I don't have a favorite anymore.  My favorite big railroad growing up was Penn Central (don't laugh).  Being a locomotive buff, they always had plenty of spares hanging around West Detroit to photograph.  Then it was Conrail, since then-nothing.  My favorite smaller railroads were the USS roads--B&LE, DM&IR, EJ&E and Union.  I also liked the Wisconsin Central.  From the above list you might surmise that I hate CN--I do.  The only road that holds any fascination for me today is Reading & Northern.  I'm mainly an armchair railfan anymore, since the megaroads don't interest me and the very small shortlines bore me.  My favorite locomotives, which might be obvious from my list above, were the non-turbocharged EMD SD's--the 7-9-18-28-38.

CN is doing a very bad job. i have to agree. they keep derailing and dont do anything to help prevent future derailments. and E Hunter Harrison keeps trying to pull crap to lower salaries for employees leading them to go on strike. CN has some serious issues

Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

Whistling [:-^]

Well CN lost any good feelings that I had for them, when management were so

lacking in common sense and due diligence to run locomotives on the mountain subs without dynamic brakes.

I have worked for managers like that and the things that come to mind for them to endure is improper to write here.

Based on Trains magazine and Internet viewing it is hard to pick a favourite. They all offer great viewing, operations and a hobby to enjoy.

SP has to be the all time favourite with the most colourful history

Here in South Africa, the demise of the 2' narrow guage lines pulled by unique Garret type loco's, is a loss.
