Per AltoonaWorks and NSDash9, you can add the GP59 to the list of eliminated models. All have been sold to other operators or Progress Rail, the first intact four axle locomotives powered by EMD's 710 engine to be strickened from the Norfolk Southern roster.
And with the storage numbers of the GP59ECO's and GP59E's (Especially the GP59E's with 8 out of 12 stored), I imagine it's safe to consider these rebuilt GP59's as being vulnerable to joining their unrebuilt sisters.
Between the announced delay in rebuilding local power and this move to stricken the unrebuilt GP59's, I also can't help but wonder if we'll see NS finish their GP34ECO prototype in the months ahead or if it will be joined by sisters in the future if they do.
Number of locomotives reduced by 22% since 2018 as part of TOP 21 operating plan
