They were acquired by Progress Rail and are being leased to NS while Progress Rail is upgrading 50 NS SD70 locomotives to SD70MACs.

Thanks for the info...do you know if they will stay in BNSF paint or go to black NS paint?

14 PRLX units are being leased to NS, of which 13 are in Grinstein Green and 1 in BNSF H3 though all are patched. They will likely stay in the colors they are now.

About a week ago, I saw an NS train with about 14 BNSF Grinstein Green units in tow heading South toward Cincinnatti.

What was the reason that these units were retired and sold?

I didn't see the number range in LocoNotes -- do you know what it is, as I think I saw one several units back in a long locomotive consist yesterday evening heading west through Collierville.  (Did not get the unit number as the locomotive directly in front of it was BNSF 789, still vividly and delightfully in warbonnet colors!)

Former BNSF 9551-9564.

You can recall the thread about the SD70MACe units, there's different orders of MAC's, 9400-9571 were non isolated cabs and jacket water aftercooled 16-710G3B-EC, combine that with their years service and mileage they're less desireable, it seems the most desireable MAC's are the ones BNSF upgraded and higher numbers, 9700s, 9800, etc. The MACe thread explains in more depth.
